Welcome to the Toddler page

WELCOME TO THE BUMBLEBEE/BUTTERFLY CLASS!
Hello Bumblebee/Butterfly Parents,
The Bumblebee class is for children around 1 years old – 1-½ years old. The Butterfly class is for 1-½ years old – 2 years old. They are both part of our Infant/Toddler Center. The class’ curriculum and schedule are both simple and flexible to meet the individual needs of the children. Transitions can be difficult at any age. We do our best to make sure your child is comfortable and content as they gradually adjust into the daily routine.
Parents fill out a Toddler Care Report as required by California Care Licensing. By doing so, you are helping us to better understand your child’s needs and wants. Of course, you are always welcome to speak to us personally if you have any questions or concerns. Other forms you may have already filled out include Physician’s Written Consent Form, and Parent Consent For Administration of Prescription and Over the Counter Medicine. These will need to be updated as your child’s weight and age increase. Please let us know about any medical or food allergies your child may have. A Plan of Action form will need to be filled out for any known allergies.
We look forward to seeing you in the Bumblebee class!

PHILOSOPHY: CHILD CENTERED – Each child is encouraged to learn from the materials on hand at his/her individual pace. Learning occurs through manipulating the materials; discovering their purpose and how they function in his/her world. PROCESS VS. WHAT WE DO:
- Simple, flexible schedule, meals, outside playtime and naps are scheduled, playtime depends on children and their desire.
- Art projects are introduced. Children will be exposed to several art mediums (i.e.: paint, crayons, markers, paste/glue, play dough).
- Self-help skills are continued and refined.
- The use of words is encouraged.
- Daily charts are kept. They record the time and amount and type of food/drink your child has eaten, slept, or soiled his/her diapers.
- Parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in their child’s day at TDLC.
- Age appropriate activities are offered to each child during their desired playtime. Activities will assist your child in natural developmental growth.
DISCIPLINE: Staff uses discipline as a teaching tool. Love, instruction, and example are primarily used (teaching the child that his/her actions were not acceptable, but he/she is still loved).
